Testimonials
I am completely new to Yoga, but my wife is a long time Yogi and loves Elyse's classes at Yoga Soup, and so this led to sharing in the retreat to Olhão, Portugal.
I had no idea what to expect, and although I come from a long athletic background, I was initially on the fence about attending the Yoga sessions at all, thinking maybe I'd just enjoy the scenery. However, I jumped into the first morning class...and never looked back.
It was transformative for me.
Elyse has a keen mind and sensitivity to life's challenges and expresses this eloquently through the wisdom of literature and poetry that she weaves effortlessly into each class. The Yoga itself is mostly a Vinyasa Flow that shifts according to a daily theme and also to the daily experience of the group. It's sensitive, strong, and flexible. I was challenged but never felt any pressure, only encouraged.
In Shavasana, this message was passed into the hands and voice of Elyse's husband Glen, whose music and lyrics found no skeptic in me, only an open mind and body. I am not ashamed to say I had tears on my cheeks in every class.
I have begun and continued my Practice every day since returning from this retreat, and see it as an important turning point in my life.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

What I love about Elyse’s teaching is how safe and spacious it feels. She creates an environment where you can breathe, let go, and simply be.

The yoga retreat to Portugal Elyse and Glen put together was magical! We found the whole experience to be curated perfectly with just the right balance of yoga, comfort, activities and free time. The accomodations and food were excellent, thanks to the Michelin mentioned boutique hotel they booked. It served as an ideal venue for twice daily yoga practices, delicious meals, and beautiful music throughout the week! There was also plenty of downtime to explore the nearby towns, indulge in massages, or just lay by the rooftop pool. For us, it was the perfect way to end a trip to Europe! Highly, highly recommend!

I’ve been practicing yoga and mindfulness for about 15 years and of all my teachers, Elyse is hands down my favorite, which is why I went on my first yoga retreat with her. I’ll never forget the first class I took with her where she read a poem by Marie Howe, “We the Living,” a work I studied in graduate school but had never in my life heard read in a yoga class. It’s a powerful poem about grief I believed I understood but hearing the lines while breathing through the creative sequence of poses, I felt as if I was absorbing the words, as if the poem itself was washing through my body and I remember thinking, who is this teacher? After taking her classes for several years now, I now know I can expect a similar experience in every class. Not only are her flows a perfect balance of strong and soft but there is always the poetry. In Portugal, we were treated to swallows swooping and diving above us as we practiced, lines of verse lingering in the air, a song at the end by Glen that cracked my hard places open. Unlike a regular yoga class where you must go back into the real world at the end, on retreat I was able to hang onto that bliss all day.

One of my favorite things about watching Elyse teach is observing how seamlessly she bridges intellect and embodiment. In a culture obsessed with productivity, appearances, and optimization, she reminds people to actually inhabit themselves. To arrive.
